Potion of Minor Healing

February 1, 2018

Wait… I know you.

Is this blog post a recipe, or is it an excuse to post every single image in my “Skyrim Memes” folder on my laptop? Its both! I have a lot of memes. But more importantly, I have a lot of health potions … At least a hundred and fifty at any given time. My love of healing potions is not limited to Skyrim, this bottle wouldn’t look out of place in League of Legends or World of Warcraft too.

Potion of Minor Healing

This post is inspired by my favourite game, which has fueled endless debates over whether the Stormcloaks or Imperials have more right to rule Skyrim. Spoiler alert: Stormcloaks do. May Talos guide you~

And so I decided to do some good old fashioned alchemy at home, and come up with a health potion myself. Alchemy level around 43. This potion is perfect for LARPing, cosplaying, or getting over a common cold. Seriously, this thing is packed with chillies and ginger, it could wake a Draugr Deathlord! I’m also calling it the “Potion of Minor Healing”, but theres nothing minor at all about it. This is an extreme shot of tequila, chilli, cayenne, ginger, and tomato juice. A classic Skyrim Health Potion Recipe!

Quantity

The below recipe makes approximately 200ml of Health Potion. My potion bottle pictured (purchased from the Etsy shop Discombobulous) can carry 100ml, so this makes enough for two potions! Not quite the 150 my Skyrim character is used to (her name is Lara Bloodaxe by the way). However, if you’re making this recipe just to enjoy for yourself, its best drunk short and neat, or diluted in a highball glass with plenty of ice. Don’t lollygag about with this one though, it tingles on the lips and goes down like fire!

You can make your 400mls of tinned tomatoes work further for you by blending the ingredients in a blender to chop down the lumpy tomatoes before straining it. This works just as well, but the consistency of the drink becomes a lot thicker, akin to soup.

Tomato-Chillies

Tequila?

As you can see the recipe also contains tequila. Originally I imagined this like a super spicy ginger “Bloody Mary”, but when mixed together the vodka just wasn’t exciting enough. Its true, the Bloody Mary is an ideal morning-after drink, filled with vitamins and minerals to kick the hangover. Which is great! Hair of the dog and all that – but we can do so much better than vodka. So I looked for a few swaps on something that would turn this from a mediocre classic cocktail into a punchy health potion, and tequila just fit beautifully. The chillies and ginger compliment the mineral-y, herbally tequila. Plus it really does make you want to run head-first into battle with a dragon.

Prep Time 10 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes
Servings 2 Potion Bottles

Ingredients

  • 400 g Tinned Tomatoes
  • 25 ml Ginger Shot
  • 1/2 Whole Bird Eye Chilli Chopped
  • Pinch Salt
  • Pinch Pepper
  • 35 ml Tequila

Instructions

  1. Finely chop half a Bird Eye Chilli, and muddle at the bottom of a bowl.

  2. Top with 400g of tinned tomatoes, and around 25ml of ginger juice. Add salt, pepper, and a single shot of strong tequila.

  3. Mix all ingredients thoroughly, then strain into a pouring jug removing all of the large chunks of tomato. You can go ahead and chuck those in the bin, we don't need them.

  4. Pour your health potion elixir into a potion bottle, and take into battle. (or serve in a tall glass with some ice).

Would you make this IRL Potion of Minor Healing? Are there any other potions you’d like to see me make? What is your favourite Skyrim / WoW / LoL memes? Please post them in the comments below!

This is super creative and awesome. Never played Skyrim, feel like I would have lost years of my life if I started 😁 How about some good old Dragon Age Lyrium potions perhaps?

Don’t get me started on Skyrim – I’ve legitimately been playing it since it first came out, I shudder to think how many hours I’ve lost.

I love love love Dragon Age though – that is such a good idea Paolo. I’ll get to work on it! But how to create that gorgeous neon blue glow is the question!

Haha it’s good they don’t have a game play tracker like Guild Wars did then…type in /age and see how many hours you’ve ever logged 😌

Yesss was such a good game hey?! That is a good question, excited to see what you come up with!

I seriously need to get back into my playing habits, how did I have not heard of this game before?! I miss getting into final fantasy and assassins creed! This is a such a cool idea with the potion. Makes me want to dive deeper into game “foods” and “potions”. You made it looks so awesome too with the bottle. I would definitely think that I gained energy by drinking the potion of minor healing =D

I’m so glad you like it Helene! I also love Final Fantasy and Assassins Creed – I should try and think of some recipes for those to attempt too! 🙂

What a fun and creative drink – I love nerdy recipes! I actually haven’t played Skyrim (the boyfriend has/is), but I have played Elder Scrolls Online. I’m a big gamer, and currently wasting life away on Final Fantasy: A Realm Reborn LOL I love anything from Life Is Strange to Hitman 🙂
