Simple Strawberry Smoothie

January 29, 2018

If you read my previous post on my “Five-A-Day” smoothie, you’ll know I LOVE a breakfast smoothie. They’re deceptively filling, hydrating, and pretty much ticks off every daily vitamin you need in one go. Plus I can bring them with me. That’s such a life saver in the morning when I’m already running late.

So here’s another smoothie recipe, and this time much more simple. No prepping ingredients separately, no layering, just simple  ‘chuck in all the good stuff, blend and pour’. Plus – it can easily be made vegan with a conscious yogurt/milk swap!

Smoothie-Side

I think making this recipe for the first time some 6 or 7 years ago was the first time I realised that adult-ing wasn’t that hard after all. Since then, a basic strawberry smoothie has been a healthy staple for me, and also one of the first afternoon snacks I reach for if in need of a sweet fix.

Since the weather has been so cold and muggy lately in London, I find myself getting through January by looking for more and more summer fruits to include in recipes. If you’re in a place where you can’t get out of season strawberries, not to worry – frozen ones work just as well in this recipe.

Garnish

To ‘finish off’ this delicious drink, I’ve garnished it here with a few flaked almonds, a slice of strawberry, some oats and some goji berries. To me, smoothies are all about getting the good stuff in you – so unless you’re garnishing with something sugary, an extra something sprinkled on top is a great idea.

Simple Strawberry Smoothie

Prep Time 5 minutes
Total Time 5 minutes
Servings 1 Glass

Ingredients

  • 200 g Strawberries Sliced
  • 1 Whole Banana Sliced
  • 75 g Vanilla Greek Yoghurt (about a dollop size)
  • 50 ml Milk (about a splash)
  • 2 cubes Ice

Instructions

  1. Combine all the above ingredients in a blender, and blend on a high setting. Pour, garnish, and enjoy!

  2. As preferred, you can thicken this smoothie by adding more banana or yogurt, or thin it by adding more milk. If using plain yogurt, feel free to flavour it with a drop of vanilla essence.

The Florida strawberries are in season and so sweet. This recipe is made for them!

Oh really? I wish I lived in Florida! Over here in the UK they’re really not in season long enough.

I do love banana in my smoothies and strawberries go so well too. I haven’t added Greek yogurt to my smoothies before so must try this:-)

Definitely try it! If not Greek, any will do – but I love the thickness it adds 🙂
